Kate Vallentine's Profile

For as long as she can remember, Kate has had a strong commitment to the well-being of the planet.

By the age of sixteen she was heavily involved in grass roots activism.    In 1995 Kate helped organise demonstrations against French nuclear testing in the Pacific, and in 1996 was a founding member of the Earthwise Permaculture Project in Subiaco.  Kate was involved in the Jabiluka campaign working with Traditional Owners to stop uranium mining in Kakadu National Park.  She co-founded the Jabiluka Action Group in W.A.  (JAGWA) in 1997 and was a part of the Jabiluka blockade from March to October in 1998.

Kate spent time studying Social Ecology at the University of Western Sydney, and then completed a music course at ABMUSIC in Perth. Over the years Kate has worked for environmental and social justice organisations such as Greenpeace and the Wilderness Society.  She also spent four years caring for people with disabilities.

Recently, Kate was an Assistant Producer for the World Puppetry festival & Congress held in Perth.  She is also involved with SWAE (South West Aboriginal entertainment) – an Indigenous owned and managed organisation.

Her social and environmental justice work is grounded in a spiritual foundation which values a combination of bearing witness, intentional reflection and an obligation to take action.
