Immerions Update
Due to the global financial crisis, we have regrettably had to place a temporary ‘hold’ on our Immersions program. The Institute is keen to restore our program as soon as possible. In the interim, we can provide you with three options:
- Edmund Rice Justice Aotearoa (NZ) (www.erjustice.org.nz) will run a Timor-Leste Immersion in July 2009. You can direct enquiries to ERJ’s Coordinator Sam Drumm at SJDrumm@edmundrice.org.
- The Edmund Rice Centre in Sydney (http://www.erc.org.au) conducts Indigenous Immersions in north-western New South Wales.
Aboriginal NSW Immersion - Now taking expressions of interest:
This year for the first time the Edmund Rice Centre (Sydney) is offering an immersion into
Aboriginal communities in North West NSW for Brothers, staff of Edmund Rice networks,
their families and friends. The journey will explore a variety of issues relating to education, social justice and Aboriginal culture; past and present in a number of rural and isolated communities. It will include travel through communities such as Brewarrina, Goodooga, Lightning Ridge, Walgett, Moree and the site of the Myall Creek massacre. The overall cost of the immersion is $695, this includes meals, travels, tour costs and accommodation. If you are interested in participating contact Ashlee Lasalo on +61 (0) 287624207 or email ashleeb@erc.org.au with an expression of interest on a suggested date 22nd to 29th August 2009 or another time from September – December, depending on numbers.
Ashlee works alongside ERC Indigenous Education Officer Cassandra Gibbs, who is a Gamilaraay woman from Goodooga and leads participants through an Immersion in her home country. You can also email Cassandra (cass@erc.org.au) for further information.
- If there are 15 or more registrations, the ERISJ will run a Tanzania Immersion from 26 June - 17 July 2010. Please convey expressions of interest to Wanjiku on (08) 9432 2400 or by email to admin@erisj.org.au. The itinerary will be similar to our 2008 Tanzania Immersion, whose details are at: http://www.erisj.org.au/tanzania_immersion
Thank you for your interest in our work.
