Aminath Didi - Intern
Aminath brings with her a wealth of experience from her work and studies over the years in London, Sydney, Perth and in the Maldives.
She has an MSc Economics (Social Planning) which she received from the London School of Economics and Political Science at the University of London and a BA (Human Geography) from Macquarie University, Sydney.
Aminath is currently a full time student at Curtin University of Technology, studying for a PhD degree in Humanities (Human Rights) where her research is focused on identifying factors that are contributing to youth disaffection.
Most recently, Aminath was the Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Maldives and has had vast and varied experience in the many positions she has held including:
- Director/Assistant Director General, Department of External Resources (DER), Maldives
- National Programme Officer, World Health Organisation (WHO), Maldives
- Associate Programme Researcher/Deputy Director, Programmes, Ministry of Planning & Environment (MPE), Maldives
- Planning Officer/Senior Planning Officer, National Planning Agency (NPA)/ Ministry of Planning & Development (MPD), Maldives.
Aminath was a Founding Member of FASHAN, a local Maldives NGO working towards empowerment of disadvantaged members of Maldivian society.
She has been a dedicated and caring volunteer working with women and youth in the Maldives and is now a committed and enthusiastic volunteer here at the Edmund Rice Institute for Social Justice.
Having had the opportunity to serve on the Prisons’ Oversight Committee in the Maldives from 2003 – 2004, Aminath became convinced that people, especially young people, would make better choices if they had better opportunities and options available to them. This made her keen to work in the area of social justice.
Aminath’s hobbies and interests include travelling, reading and listening to music.
